I definitely don't have that kind of bravery. I have in the past; but it was 100% ignorance. I do fear the guy might not understand just how much harm he puts himself in. But bless him!
Looking at Trump/Musk in America today, I have a bit more respect for the Iranian regime. They at least base their oppression on something real. Here it's like watching vicious toddlers just breaking things for its own sake.
I think of the Panahi films I've looked at, you might enjoy this one most. The film-within-a film drags, but that’s only about 20 minutes of this or so. The village stuff is great. It's so well shot, so subtly. The camera records precisely what it needs to for telling the story. And Panahi has chops as an actor, too!
It's a very different world/culture, of course. But some stuff's universal. When the bigwigs show up to press their point, and you serve them tea, and they leave without touching it at all -- that’s not a friendly message, in any language.
Can you imagine Tronald and Klon Muse releasing a political prisoner because of a hunger strike? Fat chance! They'd just claim it was a lie. And then when the prisoner died, blame their enemies.
I worry for Panahi too, and his family. But there does seem to be SOME restraint on the part of the Iranian regime. They're not like our good buddies the Saudi royal family.
