I need to watch this. I'm not much of a fan of Dino De Laurentiis, but this sounds like fun. Right before his King Kong came out, a mix of American and South Korean filmmakers came out with APE, about people making a film when a giant ape escapes captivity and kidnaps the lead actress. The name of the director of the film-within-a-film? Dino! De Laurentiis sued the producers over the film's original title. You can find out more here:
But I want to watch this film mostly because of the cast. I love Brian Blessed. And Robbie Coltrane. And Richard O'Brien. And even Timothy Dalton. Hey, speaking of Coltrane, if you haven't seen it, this deleted scene from The Brothers Bloom is absolutely amazing. I understand why they cut it. But it's great as a standalone scene:
That's an amazing clip. The camera moves are brilliant. Adrien Brody, and Rachel Weisz! I have a crush on Weisz like you wouldn't believe. But she's married to Daniel Craig, who's a lot more talented than I am. And also better-looking, although only by a smidge. A teensy bit. The man is gorgeous, but I am close. Right? Sure, right!
I gathered that you had a crush on her from the way you have spoken of her in the past. I totally get that. I loved seeing Craig as Benoit Blanc. It reminded me of something William Goldman said about Burt Reynolds. Roughly, "Why does he star in these other films that most people don't want to see him in [eg, Starting Over -FM]? I don't know Reynolds but I assume he does it because he's serious about acting." (This was written long before he became well-known for being in quirky films and parts.) I suspect that being Bond is something you do for the money.
Craig's a hoot. When a very handsome guy is more than willing to poke fun at himself a little, it's often a joy to watch. I don't know why Glass Onion cost a bazillion dollars, but at least it's very entertaining. So little Hollywood product is actually fun, these days. Amuse me! Make me chuckle! It shouldn't be rocket science. There's a lot of very funny writers and performers out there.
I think one reason Glass Onion works is that it takes a side. Usually, when Hollywood ponies up a bunch of money, they want something that can't offend anyone. You may recall that conservatives blew a gasket about the film and claimed it was just attacking Elon Musk. But here's a fact: there are plenty of liberals out there that will gladly pay to be pandered to. (Also: it simply is a fact that a lot of the supposed brilliant billionaires are idiots thriving off the creativity and work of others.) I've long defended films like God's Not Dead. It is good for groups to have films just for them. It would be nice if they didn't lie, which all the GND films do. But let's face it: GND was successful because Conservative Christians are convinced that they are oppressed; they don't feel oppressed because they saw GND!
You do sometimes find actors who are embarrassed about that fact. But mostly, we should always assume that professional actors are, in their child hearts, the same theater kids you will find at every high school. And I think that's charming as hell!

But I should note that my favorite form of art is this: one person simply telling a story. When it's great, nothing can touch it.
I see that we actually had a long back-and-forth about the films APE back in 2017!
